5 Best Fish and Chips in Brixham, Devon

Which is the Best Place for Takeaway Fish and Chips in Brixham?

You can’t beat fish and chips in Brixham when you’re on a seaside getaway, and they always taste better accompanied by a big portion of sea air. In fact, across the country, we spend nearly £ 1 billion on the dish every year.

As one of the main fishing ports in England, it doesn’t get much better than fish as fresh as the sea breeze from Brixham.

Visitors and locals are forever disagreeing over which is the best chippy in town. Luckily, a chippy is not hard to come by in Brixham but knowing where to spend your cash is the hard part.

Haddock, cod, mushy peas, or curry sauce, the most important factors are a crispy batter and flaky fish, with delicious homemade chips. A soggy fish just doesn’t cut it.

Whether you’re looking for takeaway fish and chips, or fish and chips served in a restaurant, we’ve sampled the lot across this small fishing town and chosen our favourites.

Read on to see which Brixham fish and chips shops came in our top 5.

5 Best Fish and Chips in Brixham

1. David’s Fish & Chip Shop

David’s Fish and Chips is a favourite among locals in Brixham, and it’s not hard to see why.

The multi-award-winning fish shop uses only the best quality fish, and the chips are freshly peeled in their kitchen daily.

Located on Bolton Street, David’s fish and chips is tucked away from the Brixham harbour but well worth a visit.

2. Brixham Fish

Brixham Fish, best known as Garrys fish and chips to locals, is right on the water’s edge, overlooking the stunning harbour. Serving fish and chips since 2004, high-quality food at a good value remains their principle.

Enjoy homemade chips, and mushy peas made fresh every day right in the centre of Brixham on the Quay.

Grab your takeaway and head over to one of the many benches around the harbour, or stroll to Breakwater beach to watch the waves crash beneath you.

3. Rockfish Brixham

It’s hard to find fault with the Rockfish in Brixham. Choose to take away, or relax in their restaurant outside overlooking the busy fishing port while fishing trawlers come and go.

The extensive seafood menu features daily caught specials, classic fish and chips, and a small selection of vegetarian options.

The award-winning restaurant can get busy so it’s best to book in advance to avoid any disappointment.

4. Simply Fish

Overlooking the bustling harbour, Simply Fish has both a restaurant and takeaway shop. As a family-run restaurant, this is another popular choice among locals around the town.

Although the haddock and cod are the stars of the show, the ‘Simply Fish Curry’ is particularly good and very popular with monkfish and prawns.

Simply Fish has been serving fish and chips since 2011, and a queue to eat here is very much the norm at peak times so it’s worth booking in advance if you can.

5. Quayside Restaurant

If you fancy fish and chips in a relaxed setting, take a stroll to the Quayside Restaurant.

Nestled on the harbourside inside the Quayside Hotel, this restaurant serves lightly battered fish with delicious homemade chips. A must-visit for those who love a hearty portion of fish and chips, served with mushy peas and tarter sauce.
